The second part of our Vintage Bauhaus fabric collection is finally here and we couldn’t think of a better pairing for it than our summer favourite - the Charlie Caftan! Charlie gives a modern take on the classic caftan, with maximum comfort vibes and a graceful silhouette.
Each version of Charlie has a gentle V-neckline, complemented by short dolman sleeves for an airy, relaxed fit. These can be customised by choosing the higher-cut sleeve (as used in our samples) or a lower cut one for added movement and a more relaxed fit.
At the centre front the lower portion of the dress gathers into a neat inset panel, which is cleanly finished on the inside. In her accompanying video, Lauren walks you through the construction of this panel with some extra tips on how to sew it neatly. Optional ties can be sewn in here which allow you to adjust the fit of the dress to your preferred style.
Charlie has two length options to choose from; an everyday length that hits just above the knee or a maxi length which has a little more drama. The maxi length includes side splits for easy movement and did we mention that all views can have pockets?
Whichever version you choose, Charlie is sure to become a regular in your wardrobe. The bold shapes and fresh summery colours in our exclusive fabric make this dress effortlessly wearable and it’s sure to be one you’ll keep reaching for throughout spring and summer!

Our exclusive Cream Jigsaw and Aqua Segments viscose prints were created by Lauren in collaboration with surface pattern designer Rachel Parker and are part of the second instalment of our exclusive Vintage Bauhaus Fabric collection!
These prints showcase striking patterns inspired by the clean lines and distinct shapes of Bauhaus art. Bold geometric silhouettes combined with intricate elements in a gorgeous colour palette allows you to make a statement piece that pays homage to this design aesthetic in a modern way.
Both prints are on our new viscose poplin base. This fabric is 100% viscose with a weight of 115gsm, meaning it drapes beautifully and gives gentle gathers at the front of the dress. It is also breathable, making it cool to wear as the weather starts to warm up!

This pattern is available in sizes US 0-32.
There are two size options for this kit:
US 0-20 (B Cup): Bust 31 - 46”, waist 24 - 39” and hip 33 - 48”
US 14-32 (D Cup): Bust 42 - 60”, waist 35 - 53” and hip 45 - 63”

- Main fabric: as described above. Size US 0-20 kits contain 3.2m of fabric and Size US 14-32 kits contain 3.5m.
- Interfacing: Ultra soft lightweight fusible interfacing in white. Size US 0-20 kits contain 35cm and Size US 14-32 kits contain 40cm.
- Thread: 1 reel of Gutermann sew-all thread, shades 802 (cream jigsaw) and 714 (turquoise segments). If you don't have an overlocker and plan to use the same thread for finishing off seam allowances, we suggest you purchase an extra reel (see below) or use a similar shade left over from another project.

She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to cut viscose fabric, how to turn a narrow fabric tube, how to sew the front panel, how to gather fabric, how to sew the side split and much more!
The video has over 26 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.

Closet Core rate this pattern as suitable for a confident beginner. Techniques include sewing gathers, sewing an inset panel and working with viscose fabric.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
