The Ormond Jacket is a chore style jacket which is the extra layer you need for the changing seasons. Finishing at the high hip, it’s a versatile piece that will coordinate with lots of outfits in your wardrobe.

The jacket features raglan sleeves which are easy to sew and have a simple hemmed finish. The flat collar, also known as a convertible collar, allows the jacket to be worn fully buttoned up or open for a relaxed look.

There’s satisfying topstitching on the jacket, which highlights the design features, such as the angled front pockets. These roomy pockets are just the right size for holding your essentials, or an extra pair of gloves should the cold weather return!

To complement the fabrics we’ve sourced antique brass jeans style buttons, which give the jacket a work-wear edge. On the inside though it’s all about the beautiful finish and we’ve included super soft and smooth Liberty Tana Lawn to bind the seams with.

In her top tips video Lauren demonstrates how to make your own continuous bias binding using this fabric and also explains how it can be used in the under collar for a flash of colour!

The Ormond is a handy jacket that you’ll find yourself constantly reaching for as you leave the house - the extra layer you didn’t know you were missing!

Each kit includes enough fabric to make the hip length jacket version of this pattern.

Fabric

This kit is available in four gorgeous spring colours: ecru, lilac, old blue and sage

The fabric we’ve chosen is the Sevenberry Cotton Twill, which is perfect for outerwear. It is hardwearing, yet not stiff and has a lovely softness to it. It is 100% cotton, giving it great breathability, with a weight of 267 g/m².

We’ve paired these fabrics with Liberty Tana Lawn, for a beautiful finish on the inside of your jacket. Liberty’s lawns are renowned for being made from finely woven cotton, which will add a touch of luxury to your make.

To see the fabrics close up check out the video in the main gallery above.

Lauren's top tips videos

Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to Lauren’s exclusive YouTube video to be used alongside the pattern instructions.

She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to make continuous bias binding from a rectangle, how to bind the seams, how to sew flat fell seams, how to construct the collar, how to sew the buttonholes and much more!

The video has over 38 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.

The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference.

In the Folds rate the difficulty level for this pattern as 3.5 / 5. However, the jacket view used in the kit is slightly more straightforward as it doesn’t feature welt pockets.

Recommended tools and equipment

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools. A hammer is used to install the jacket buttons and a quilting ruler is very helpful for making the bias binding.

You can see some of the tools most used by Lauren in her top tips video in the Related Products section below.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.
