The Mitchell Trousers are an elegant and comfortable trouser with some extra special details. They're a modern interpretation of the classic pleated trouser, but include some unique elements which set them apart. Sew them up with a full length wide leg or choose a tapered leg which finishes at the ankle.
The deep front pleats enclose the angled pockets, which are faced with the exterior fabric, meaning there's no risk of your lining peeking out. The pocket love continues on the back of the trouser, where sleek welt pockets can be sewn. Choose whether to sew one, both or no welt pockets depending on the look you want (and the sewing time you have available!).
Adjustable waist straps can be added for extra detail, with the straps cleverly sewn into the front pleats and back darts. The straps are fastened with metal D rings, giving a really professional finish.
The trousers close with a fly front zip and have a comfy hidden waistband facing for a sleek silhouette. The top of the fly is secured with a hook and bar as well as an internal button.
This kit also includes a bonus video on how to create continuous bias binding, which Lauren shows you how to use to sew neat Hong Kong bound seams. These will give your trousers a super professional finish you'll be really proud of!
All kits include enough fabric to make either view of the trouser. Please note that this is a re-make of our original Mitchell kit and contains different fabric to the modelled garment photos. Full details of the fabric included can be found below.

This kit is available in two gorgeous twills: spruce bamboo blended twill or maroon smooth drape twill.
The Spruce Bamboo Blended Twill Fabric is an eco-sustainable fabric in a lovely deep forest green colour. This fabric is super soft to the touch with a slight stretch. Its bamboo content gives it a soft drape that really compliments the shape of the Mitchells. It is 49% bamboo, 49% recycled polyester and 2% spandex with a GSM of 240.
The Maroon Smooth Drape Twill fabric is made by designer MeetMILK and has a luxurious feel and a really soft and smooth touch. Like the Spruce Twill it has a beautiful drape which works well for the Mitchells. It is made from 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres which have anti-bacterial qualities and make the fabric breathable. This fabric has a weight of 215gsm and is certified according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to sew a fly, how to construct welt pockets, how to sew the front pleats, how to make continuous bias binding, how to sew Hong Kong bound seams and much more!
The three videos have a total of over 50 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.
The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference.
This pattern is aimed at intermediate dressmakers, as it includes some unique construction methods and welt pockets where precision is needed. We suggest that this wouldn't be the first pair of trousers you have ever made, but if you have tackled some simpler styles of trouser before, this is a great project for developing your skills and confidence further.
However, the pattern difficulty can be reduced by omitting the welt pockets and straps.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
You can see some of the tools most used by Lauren in her top tips video in the Related Products section below.
If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.

Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.
We will aim to dispatch all kits as soon as possible after orders are placed, and we aim to have all kits shipped out by Friday 22nd August.
