Lauren's Colour-blocked Jenna Shirt in Striped Cotton Double Gauze
There’s something so lovely about a shirt that feels like a wardrobe staple but has a little extra personality, and my colourblocked Jenna Shirt does just that!
I love a shirt that has a little something different about it, and colourblocking is such a lovely way to make a handmade garment feel really individual. My Jenna Shirt combines the relaxed feel of cotton double gauze with the interest of stripes and contrasting sections, creating a piece that feels easy to wear but still has plenty of personality.
If you'd like to recreate my Jenna Shirt, you'll find your shopping list below. I've also included my Jenna Shirt Top Tips video, with lots of extra guidance for tackling all those classic shirtmaking techniques, and make sure to check out my blog on working with double gauze.
Lauren's Notes:
• Fabric choice: These cotton double gauzes are lightweight, breathable and soft, with that characteristic crinkled texture that gives the finished garment a lovely casual feel. The stripes add extra interest, while the colourblocking gives you the opportunity to play with how the pattern runs across different sections of the shirt.
• Styling tip: I'd wear this with jeans or relaxed trousers for an easy everyday outfit, or tuck it into a pair of high-waisted shorts when the weather warms up. The striped fabric and colourblocked details do the talking, so simple separates work brilliantly alongside it.
• Difficulty level: This is a lovely project if you're comfortable following a shirt pattern and are ready to explore a little more creativity with your fabric. As well as working through the usual shirt construction, you'll want to take care with stripe placement and matching the pattern pieces.
