Re-make your favourite g&g Sewing Society Kits
Fabric suggestions for sewing patterns featured in past kits!
I love it when you find a great sewing pattern that you can make again and again in different fabrics and end up with a totally different looking garment!
All of the patterns featured in our popular g&g Sewing Society kits are super wearable and great additions to your handmade wardrobe collection. Once you have made the first version using the fabric that was part of the kit, you can move onto a different version using some of our lovely selection of fabrics available to buy by the meter.
In this post I'm going to round up some past kit sewing patterns with our current range of fabrics - I hope it inspires your next project and helps you work out how to pair fabrics and patterns together to get a great outcome at the end!

Stripy tops
Jennifer Lauren Handmade Gable Top
You can't beat a classic stripe and I'd say you can really never have too many stripes in your wardrobe!
TheJennifer Lauren Handmade Gable Topfeatured in a kit originally in September 2020 and we used two opposing colourways of a wide stripe cotton French Terry fabric in navy and ecru - the classic Breton colours!
We now have the same type of fabric available in a selection of other brighter colour combinations. I love the pink and ginger stripe the best!
Another lovely t-shirt pattern fromJennifer Lauren Handmade is the Ostara Top, which was originally featured in a kit in February 2021. This fitted t-shirt top has a really lovely rounded neckine with an option to sew in a pleated detail at the centre front. It's a great basic style pattern to have in your stash and I've made several since!
Our range of mid-stripe cotton jerseys are perfect for this style and I love the colour range choices!
Snuggly Tops
Nina Lee Southbank Sweater
TheNina Lee Southbank Sweaterwas one of the early kits we made back in September 2019. With is relaxed fit and loose turtle neckline it's a super cosy and comfy one if you are starting to look to make more transitional garments into Autumn.Our range of organic splash sweat shirting fabric would be perfect for a colourful version - we have lots of options to choose from!
Megan Neilsen Rowan top and body suit
If keeping out the drafts around your neck is high on the agenda, then theMegan Neilsen Rowan top and body suitis another versatile option that offers several necklines, including a turtle neck design.Originally part of a kit in February 2020, we used our loopback modal jersey in 3 different colour options but this garment would also look amazing in one of our printed jerseys. These gorgeous decoupage style prints are now available in two new rouge and navy colourways!
Classic Skirts
Tilly and the buttons Ness
Tilly and the buttons Nesswas included in a kit back in May 2019 and is a classic fly fronted skirt with inset pockets and a back yoke. The original kit included some lovely mid blue denim, but I think this skirt would also look good made using some of our new cotton jacquard fabrics.These fabrics have a small scale pattern woven into them, giving lovely intricate detail.The pattern is now available as a PDF from the Tilly and the Buttons website (link here) and remember you can make use of ourPDF pattern printing serviceto get it printed full scale on A0 paper.
Closet Core Fiore Skirt
The Closet Core Fiore Skirt is a good all rounder pattern with 3 variations! This kit originally featured in a kit in July 2020 and we paired it with a lovely linen viscose blend in navy and red.
Our range of ramie fabrics would also be perfect. This fabric has such a lovely textured finish, and is a bit like linen, only heavier in weight.
Crisp Skirts
Grainline Archer shirt
The Grainline Archer shirt is one of my personal all time favourite patterns and we included it in a kit in March 2020 featuring an Atelier Brunette viscose crepe in the twig print and a plain bamboo modal fabric in navy.
With all the classic features of a shirt - stand collar, cuff and placket, sewn on button band and patch pockets, it looks great in so many fabrics!
Closet Core Kalle Shirt
The Closet Core Kalle Shirt (and dress!) is another classic shirt pattern that I've made again and again. It has short grown on sleeves, several placket and collar options and the shorter length is finished off with a split faced hem. When we included this in a kit back in June 2019 we included an Atelier Brunette cotton lawn.
Cotton lawn fabric is perfect for shirts like both of these patterns as it presses really well and sits really nicely into the crisp details.
We've got such a lovely selection of Liberty Tana Lawn prints that would look amazing as a statement garment!
