Spring Butterfly Window

We are welcoming the sunshine here in our lovely fabric shop in, Moseley, Birmingha! Our latest Guthrie & Ghani shop window display is full of fresh spring sewing inspiration, with a calming palette of soft blues and greens, delicate butterflies and lovely plants that are loving the sunshine as much as we are!

As always, Jo has done a fantastic job styling the window, bringing together several garments made from beautiful dressmaking fabrics and sewing patterns currently available in the shop. It’s a lovely way to see how fabrics look once they’re made up into wearable garments.

Join me in my YouTube video as I talk you through all of Jo's Spring me-made wardrobe inspiration and shop the patterns and fabrics below!

Anna Allen Anthea Blouse

The first outfit features the Anna Allen Anthea Blouse, made in one of our embroidered striped cotton fabrics featuring delicate details of trailing flowers over subtle stripes.

The slightly heavier weight of the these cottons helps those lovely puff sleeves hold their shape really nicely. We have a range of beautiful summer ready pastel colours too!

Merchant & Mills Edie Top

Next up is the Merchant & Mills Edie Top, which is a real g&g favourite.

It has beautiful puff sleeves with elasticated cuffs and a sweet keyhole opening at the back. This one is sewn in another of our embroidered cotton fabrics with the most beautiful details and drape.

The Ruby Vest

Our Ruby Vest Kit pairs so easily with so much, so we added these kits to the display too! This quilted and reversible vest is one of our Sewing Society kits.

This version paired with the Edie is made in teddy fleece and sherpa, making it really cosy, and it’s a reversible design so it looks gorgeous whichever way you wear it.

Chalk & Notch Aria Top

We’ve also included the Chalk & Notch Aria Top, which is a lovely simple style that works beautifully with embroidered fabrics.

I particularly love the elasticated sleeve with the little ruffle detail, and the neckline is finished with a facing which keeps it nice and clean and simple.

The gorgeous embroidered cotton doesn’t have large open eyelets, so you don’t necessarily need anything underneath unless you’d like a little extra coverage.

Nepheline Blouse & Ruby Vest Layering

The final outfit features the Nepheline Blouse, which is such a lovely simple blouse pattern. The fabric that works so perfectly for the Nepheline Blouse is our Vintage Textured Cotton, which is part of our core collection and has such a lovely subtle texture.

I’ve layered it with another version of the Ruby Vest, this time made in a reversible quilted cotton in sage and cream. The quilting gives it such a beautiful professional finish and it’s a really lovely piece for layering in spring.

This version is from a previous Sewing Society kit, where we added a lace trim detail to the sleeves and down the centre front. As that isn’t part of the original pattern, I do have a Top Tips video showing you how to add that if you’d like to try it.

The details

Jo has done such a gorgeous job styling the window with delicate butterflies, soft plants and a really lovely palette of blues and greens, which makes the whole display feel fresh and spring-like.

I hope you’ve found lots of inspiration in this window display and maybe spotted an idea for your next make.

Happy sewing!
