Cosy Autumn Sewing Inspiration in our New Window Display

Get set for warm and cosy dressmaking projects as we fill the shop window with beautiful fabrics from our Autumn/Winter ranges and pair them with patterns that will shoot straight to the top of your to make list!

It's that time of year that we start welcoming so many cosy and warm Autumn and Winter fabrics to the shop. The seasons shift, the days get shorter and we love filling the window with a brand new display of makes and projects to set you up for cooler weather!

Jo has designed another gorgeous display, rich in warm colours, textured fabrics and cosy knits! You can see a full tour and hear me chat about it in my latest Youtube video or scroll on for all the details and links to the patterns and fabrics featured!

The details

For this display gorgeous height and space in the big bay window of the shop has been filled with lots of lovely touches created by Jo. Colourful pink and orange bobbins, big buttons and our chunky measuring tape along with lots and lots of scissors add depth and movement to the window and they dangle down.

The Garments

We've picked a selection of the warmest and cosiest fabrics from the new season fabrics, not only in how they feel but in their tones and colour palettes too!

The True Bias Marlo Cardigan and Merchant and Mills Eve Trousers

The Marlo Cardigan is one of my favourites for a quick cosy make. It's over sized style with a drop shoulder has a deep V-neck with wide neckband, cuff and hem band.

We've paired it with this amazing colour way of our knitted zigzag fabric and contrasted with the orchid rose cotton fleeceback sweatshirt fabric for the cuffs and bands. This is a chunkier fabric and the fleeceback matches it really well in terms of thickness. Check out my Youtube video linked above for hints and tips on working with this fabric and getting the stripes pattern matched.

The cardigan is layered over a classic Grainline Lark V-neck tee in the Maroon colourway of our supersoft loopback modal jersey from the Core Collection.

To complete the outfit we have used the Merchant and Mills Eve Trouesrs along with one of our chunky cords. This was a sample from a previous window but I've linked a similar colourway below!

For a lovely alternative to rich tones in the Fuchsia ZigZag fabric we also have the Blue Mountain and Pink Etna colourways which both look great paired with the Navy Cotton Fleeceback Sweatshirt fabric for the cuffs and bands.

The Matchy Matchy All Round Crew and the Zero Waste Block Pants

For ultimate snuggly vibes The Matchy Matchy All Around Crew + Expansion is designed with comfort in mind. We've made view A - the cropped length that hits at the natural waistline with a relaxed fit, drop shoulder and a gently curved hemline. The double sided teddy fleece fabric in this dusky rose colour matches really nicely with the dusty orchid ribbing, but would also work with the pink recycled cotton ribbing. We choose to just overlock the hem to avoid extra bulk but you could easily do a single turned hem and top stitch it down as well if you don't have an overlocker.

We've paired this jumper with the Zero waste block pants in our classic Bordeaux Cotton Twill. This medium weight fabric has a lovely structure to hold the oversized style of these trousers which have a really interesting construction method.

Tilly and the Buttons Drew Sweatshirt and the Matchy Matchy Archer Work Pants

Our next cosy set features the Drew Sweater in the Sand sparkle sweatshirting fabric - its subtle lurex thread gives a lovely shimmer. We paired it with the sand ribbing for the neckline to make sure it was nice and stretchy and the hem band was cut out of the main fabric at a 1:1 ratio compared to the main bodice so that it would have more of a boxy look rather than being pulled into the hug the hips.

It's paired with the Archer Work pants in our Rust Ramie fabric - such a lovely transitional combination!

I hope you have enjoyed having a view into our latest inspiring window display and have lots of new ideas on your to sew list.
